SCAP Writers in the Room

SCAP Writers in the Room
6pm - 8pm Thursday 11th May
Free and all welcome

We are pleased to welcome Sea Horse Creative Arts and Publishing (SCAP) to the gallery for a very special evening of readings. The writers will include work that considers ideas of home and belonging which are the main concerns of the current exhibition by Margaret Mitchell, An Ordinary Eden .

This in-person event brings together some SCAP Writers who have previously all met on Zoom, alongside special guest Jim Carruth

Jim Carruth was born in Johnstone in 1963 and grew up on his family’s farm in Renfrewshire. His work has attracted both praise and awards, including the McLellan Poetry Competition, the McCash Poetry Prize and the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award. In 2009, he was awarded a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship. He has collaborated with sculptor Andy Scott on several projects over the years, most notably The Kelpies, and in 2014, he was appointed as the Poet Laureate for Glasgow. In 2015, his verse novella Killochries was shortlisted for the Saltire Society Scottish Poetry Book of the Year, the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry Prize and the Fenton Aldeburgh Prize. Far Field came out this year and is the final part of The Auchensale Trilogy following on from Black Cart (2017) and Bale Fire (2019).

He will be joined by other guest writers and past SCAP Writers on Zoom participants Jo Gilbert, Allan Gaw, David Stakes, Martin Goldie, Heather Meldrum and George Gibson.

Developed for the enjoyment and involvement in Arts and Culture in Scotland SCAP aims to set up events to celebrate the diversity of work being created in communities across Scotland. Our classes in Creative Writing, Art, Dance, Photography and Music are designed to encourage self-exploration whilst sharing activities with likeminded people in an inclusive setting.
