Nationhood: Memory and Hope - Artists Talk with Miriam Ali and Haneen Hadiy
Street Level Photoworks
6th December, 2pm & 17th January, 2pm
To accompany our current exhibition Nationhood: Memory and Hope, we invite you to join us for a series of artist talks featuring emerging Glasgow-based photographers Miriam Ali and Haneen Hadiy. Both artists will share insights into their creative processes and discuss the works they currently have on display.
Miriam Ali’s Letting Glasgow Flourish portraits spotlight grassroots activists from community organisations in Glasgow. The series celebrates unsung local heroes, capturing the people who are building more connected and inclusive community spaces—places that spark joy, create opportunities, and strengthen the communities they serve.
Haneen Hadiy’s Scotland Through Her Eyes project explores connections of cultural identity, family history, spirituality, and the natural beauty of dramatic Scottish landscapes; all through the lens of Islamic symbolism. Taken in the Campsies, the photographs illustrate the ways her family has, across generations, interlaced their life into Scotland from Iraq, becoming both inseparable from the landscape and uniquely positioned within it.
Nationhood: Memory and Hope is Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture and Impressions Gallery commission in partnership with Belfast Exposed, Ffotogallery, Cardiff and Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow. Curated by Anne McNeill.
