Irish Photography Now Panel Session
with Trish Lambe & Deirdre Robb
Thursday 20th October
6.30pm - 8.00pm
Free entry - No Booking Required
Join us for a special panel session on exploring aspects of Irish photography with Trish Lambe, Artistic Director of Photo Museum Ireland, Dublin, and Deirdre Robb, Chief Executive of Belfast Exposed.
Programmed to coincide with the exhibition Flight by Frank McElhinney, this panel discussion aims to profile the work of these two photographic centres in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, to showcase the quality and diversity of photographic work coming out of the countries of the North and the South.
Established in 1978 as Gallery of Photography, Photo Museum Ireland's programmes nurture and promote work by the best Irish and international artists, to reflect on the politics of place and identity. Trish’s presentation will outline the organisations current ‘In Our Own Image’ programme surveying photographic practices in Ireland from 1839 to now. Presented as a year-long series of multi-site exhibitions, ‘In Our Own Image’ explores how photography has reflected and shaped cultural identities in Ireland.
Belfast Exposed was set up nearly 40 years ago and has represented the work of photographers from a range of backgrounds while recruiting a cross-community steering committee and bringing exhibitions to venues in all areas of the city. Deirdre has 20 years experience in photography as a Creative Director and Curator. After her Masters she began her career as a practicing artist, undertaking local, national and international exhibitions, residencies and managing artist-led exchange programmes.Banner Image: © Enda Bowe, courtesy of Photo Museum Ireland
