‘Victory Park’ - a new body of work being premiered at Street Level for Glasgow International - extends his more art documentary approach to one of an Latvian fairytale referencing landscape, politics, and sex.
Arnis was born in Riga, Latvia in 1978, and studied at the University of Westminster, London (2004-05). His solo exhibitions include ‘Amnesia’ at Riga Art Space in 2009 [touring to Ventspils and Talsi], ‘Episodes Vol. I’, at Matthew Bown Gallery, London 2006, ‘Naked’, Matthew Bown Gallery, London 2004, Exhibition Hall Arsenals of the State Museum of Art, Riga, Fotogalerie Wien, Vienna Selected solo exhibitions include ‘Sense of Place’, AusstellungsHalle 1A, Frankfurt 2013; East and Europe - Eastern European Contemporary Art, City Exhibition Art Hall, Hong Kong; ’...for an occurrence to become an adventure...’, Riga Art Space, Riga; ’I See Europe!’, Kunstbezirk gallery, Stuttgart. He has shown video works in 2008.
His work has been written about in various books, catalogues and magazine. The book “Sense of Place” contains photographs by Balcus, Reinis Hofmanis and Alnis Stakle. He is editor of FK Magazine and is involved in Riga Photo-Month in May 2014, which coincides with Latvia’s co-hosting of European Capital of Culture.
