Black & White Beginners Darkroom Evening Course

This course runs over two evenings and is the perfect follow-on from the B&W Film Processing Course. It covers all you need to know to get started printing your own B&W photographs in the darkroom. You will need to bring along developed B&W film negatives - paper and chemistry are provided. Experience the magic of seeing your prints come to life using analogue techniques and learn all about how to use a traditional B&W darkroom.
Course contents: Session One
• Introduction to the darkroom: enlargers and chemistry
• Darkroom etiquette and Health & Safety
• Make a contact sheet of your negatives
Course Contents: Session Two
• Making enlargements from negatives (10” x 8”)
• Exploring basic techniques for enhancing your prints, like dodging and burning and controlling contrast
• Supported printmaking for the rest of the session
Tiu Makkonen is a fine art and freelance photographer originally from Finland who has been living and working in Scotland for over a decade. Tiu has exhibited her work in both group and solo shows and currently works as the Facility Assistant at Street Level Photoworks. More info here
