Our ongoing partnership with Regional Screen Scotland / The Screen Machine*, continues in 2026 with 'Of Mothers and Missiles’, a digital short film made with Glasgow based artist Gina Lundy. This will be screened on the mobile cinema in the Western Isles ahead of the film Hamnet, which commenced in Tarbert, Harris in February and runs until early April - locations include Islay, Tichnabruich, Brodick, Millport, Fort Augustin, Tomintoul, Newtonmore, Golspie, Lairg and Ullapool. Check the Screen Machine website for dates and times.
In this short, Gina reveals her exploratory practice in this project which began in Benbecula and South Uist. Using local flora and fauna, archival photographs from the Kildonan Museum, and layered processes including cyanotype, screen printing and laser cutting, Lundy overlays maps, data and knitting patterns to create richly textured images.
The work explores early motherhood and the parallels between island landscapes and our physical and psychological boundaries.
The digital short is one of 14 works produced through our own Culture Collective programme. A launch screening of all the works will take place in the Summer of 2026.
