‘Passages’ was a compilation of work from Scottish artists which aimed to provide a means through which communication is made possible between the viewer and the various different worlds and obsessions of these particular artists.
The works variously examine forms of liberty, both mental and physical; exploring concepts of transition from one state to another; country to country, port to port, and place to place; externally and within the landscapes of the mind. Humour frequently lurks close to the surface. The works act as reference points on our mental compass; speaking of difference, change, symbolism, movement, and the parallels of extremes; and which without exception, delve beneath the surface and speak of concerns that are not outside of us, but next to us, under our skin, and inside our minds.
