Kevin Atherton
The Television - Repeat
Performance: 17th April at 7pm. Free

‘The Television’ as a TV personality first broke onto the alternative art scene in the mid 1980s. Consisting of a television set ‘emptied out’ of content, the personality of the TV set itself - as a blank white screen, was allowed to emerge as ‘a character’. Placing the TV set at head height, by means of a stand, and positioning a microphone in front of the screen established the TV as a ‘stand-up’ life size figure. ‘The Television - Repeat’ is a revisiting of those heady days and as an interview with ‘The Television’ it will look back at a number of issues and questions. ‘The Television’, in dialogue with David Garcia, will reflect on the cult of celebrity, the relationship between ‘The Television’ and the TV character ‘Max Headroom’ as well as testing the wisdom and feasibility of ‘The Television’s’ planned comeback in the digital age. This performance at GI features David Garcia (Dean of Chelsea College of Art and Design and Professor of Design for Digital Cultures) as The Interviewer.

The event will be recorded and will remain as an installation for the duration of Lost and Found.
