Stuart Murray’s work is highly observational
with a strong element of social commentary. Among the themes he has explored / is
exploring are gentrification, menial jobs and survival tactics earning,
homelessness and begging, drinking and pub culture. An overall theme
that emerges is that of ordinary people trying to survive.
The book is populated by the beautiful and the grotesque that the artist
has encountered across some of Glasgow finest bars, and this new limited
numbered wire bound edition of 200 features an essay by Alasdair
Gray and a short story by James Kelman.
A Q+A session between the artist and critic Neil Mulholland preceeded
the launch.
In Pubs is 68 pages large format (28 x 29 cm) and ring bound.
