The island site on Wilson St. at its junction with Glassford St. carries a redundant police box, a disused public toilet, and an under-serviced planting bed.

ablab + dunlop brought this corner alive. A beacon of potential was set up which could be seen from all sides and along the length of 2 roads.
“we envision a day when police surveillance will gleefully participate in the celebration of hedonism”.
The work took the form of a sound and light installation in the disused public toilets which suggested a party which can’t be accessed underground. Shifting light in the stairwells evoked club scenes and neon... sounds leaked into the streets. The police box itself had its light restored to use, and lighting within showed through the windows. A small screen placed within the gap of a broken pane carried treated imagery from generations of social pleasure within the city. Snippets of the past added to this mix which in turn alluded to notions of the future in the city as a zone where pleasure and dread collide.

This project was part of Radiance, Glasgow’s festival of light, funded by Glasgow City Council
and developed in collaboration with nva and DF Concerts.
