This exhibition premiered a range of new works by the artist that had not been shown in Scotland before. These included the epic visual narrative ‘In the Woods of God Realization’ which was the most complex realization to date of the artist’s production of digital paintings, 'Landscape with the Fall of Icarus' (2001), 'Keats in Korea' (2001), and 'Shenandoah Canto' (2000), created for an exhibition in Virginia. Other works included ‘I Have this One Afternoon, (1999)’ which was shown in print form in the exhibition ‘Infinitude’ at the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow, in the Summer of 2000.
The works are lambda prints on glass which were suspended in the main gallery space complemented by smaller IRIS prints in gallery 1. The title for the Street Level exhibition, ‘A World Perfect at Last’ is taken from the Polish poet Czeslaw Milosz, whose work, like that of Reeves', is a reflective meditation upon our existence.
Since the late 1970’s, American-born artist Daniel Reeves has produced work of the most profound and breathtaking imagery. Often described as a video poet’, his work is deeply spiritual and autobiographical, impassioned and brave. Reeves has said of his work:
"Thematically the paintings are empowered and shaped by the confluence of history, memory and the legacy of violence, secrecy and denial which has plagued our century. In all of this, I have wanted to explore and in some way reveal the true transformative value of art."
