London Photographic Awards

Ran from 1st August - 2nd September 2000

This was the third year of this annual photography showcase bringing image-makers of diverse social, cultural and professional interests together through the forging of links between 'pure' fine art and 'applied' commercial photography.

"What with all the headline grabbing furore that accompanied the Turner Prize there's a growing sense that art awards are no longer serious appraisals of talent. However, the London Photographic Awards is one that still carries gravitas. It is not that it is a less radical event than the others — formal categories are spurned in favour of the simple brief that entries must be a response to a poem, this year's being Hugo Williams 'Last Things'. But entries are judged purely for their value as fine art" Amber Cowan The Times, January 22nd 2000.
