Futureproof is a chosen selection of work from [some] graduates in 2010 of Scotland's dedicated photography courses: Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Gray's School of Art (Aberdeen), Glasgow Metropolitan College, and Napier University (Edinburgh). The show aims to capture something of the full range of ways that younger and emerging artists engage with photography, from creating documentary to tell stories of others, or to examine one's own private life; the photograph as a metaphor for memory; the excavation of neglected sites from the past; or the telling of fictional stories, to work that may seem banal, to that which is quite simply an energetic stream of consciousness.

The physical and material properties of photography are played with in various works as is the formal exploration of the relationship between the analogue and the digital. Each however, displays an individualism and creativity that is expected from institutions of edification, helping to instill and cultivate a drive in artistic intention and sense of discovery which is intrinsic to being an artist. The title 'Futureproof' is a pun on the definition of futureproofing – of finding ways of not becoming obsolete in the future, and also of the subtle ways of anticipating future developments in the field, of seizing opportunities, as well as the actual and intangible influences in ideas that feed the art of photography.
