Over the course of the launch weekend of Glasgow International Thursday 10th - Monday 14th April 2008, The Caravan Gallery were revealing some aspects and views of everyday Glasgow life in their unique portable gallery, which was situated at various sites.

During the last eight years, The Caravan Gallery has travelled the length and breadth of the UK. Extensive periods of research involve immersion in the local culture, looking at what is special or distinctive about a ‘place’. On the street, The Caravan Gallery engages with the most diverse of audiences: not only the art cogniscenti, but everyone else who is not. Welcome to Glasgow (International).

Writing of The Caravan Gallery, Andrew Hinton observes: By turns humorous, heartbreaking and revealing, their images of modern Britain add up to a photographic ‘state of the nation’ which tells a fascinating and historically important story of our collective life. The caravan is a remarkable catalyst for human stories. Part display space, part confessional, it attracts an amazing range of characters wherever it lays anchor. Its simple charms disarm visitors and open up rich worlds of human experience. The universal themes of the work offer huge potential for dialogue The Caravan Gallery sets out on its epic mission to display and document the exceptional within the everyday, the extraordinary ordinary.
